Do you have a green thumb? Maybe not a whole green thumb, but a partial green one or even a light shade of green? If so, then you can easily put in a garden and grow your own wedding flowers!
Going green is the hippest, hottest thing going on around the world right now. How better a way to jump on the bandwagon than by growing and arranging your own wedding bouquet? There isn’t, so let’s get moving. You have a lot of work to do.
Since you need several months of growing time, you will have to plan accordingly. Unfortunately, if you are planning a winter or early spring wedding, your climate might not cooperate and you might have no other choice than to go to a florist. But let’s assume you lucky and can grow ahead of the right season. Let’s get planning.
First, what flowers do you want in your bouquets? You an easily grow daisies, gladiolas, dahlias, lilies, snapdragons, marigolds and cosmos. While those might not be the most traditional of wedding flowers, they will work beautifully.
Next, order the seeds or plants and get ready to prepare the ground.
Find your plot of land or purchase pots if you want to keep a container garden.
Once the seeds come, plant according to the package directions. Always purchase way more than you need, because Mother Nature tends to be a party crasher and can ruin even the best laid plans. Have extra or a backup plan if one type of flower doesn’t grow or doesn’t produce enough blossoms.
Cut your flowers one or two days before you plan on assembling the bouquets. Gather everything in one area and assemble away. When you are finished, store the bouquets and boutonnieres in a cooler until the big day.
